Nails in everyday life are subjected to constant loads, which often leads to some trouble. For example, it comes off as a result of a traumatic injury. How to be in such cases?
They perform not only an aesthetic, but also a protective function, so it is necessary to restore the plate. Modern medicine offers such technology as nail prosthetics. This procedure performed both on the arms and legs is relatively inexpensive and instantly solves the problem. Today we will tell you about the indications, contraindications and subtleties of the procedure.
What is a prosthetics?
When it comes to hands, it is often performed for cosmetic reasons. Prosthetics of the toenails is aimed at restoring the protective functions and associated with some difficulties. Every day there is an intense load on them, so the prostheses fail more quickly.
The procedure can solve the problem with damage or absence of the plate and avoid possible complications. Do not confuse it with decorative cosmetic extension ones. They have nothing in common. Here, fundamentally other materials with a high content of plasticizers are used to make the artificial nail durable, but at the same time are close to natural flexibility.
It is performed using the following materials:
- ready masses;
- plate prostheses;
- light curing gels;
As a result, the damaged plate is restored, protected from deformation and the penetration of infections, the natural nail is getting the correct form.
Indications for prosthetics
There are many indications for this procedure. Specialists can decide to do the operation in the following cases:
- Damage or loss of part after a mechanical injury.
- Overcoming the distal cushion preventing normal growth. It is often formed as a result of systematically cutting under the root. The skin in this area begins to harden, the process of keratinization starts, and the distal roller gradually forms.
- Partial or absolute absence as a result of surgical intervention.
- Some fungal diseases.
- Plate exfoliation.
- Longitudinal splitting.
- Impaired growth.
- Thickening and growth.
- The problem of ingrown nail.
Also in some cases, the possibility of prosthetics purely for aesthetic purposes may be considered.
How to perform the procedure?
It needs preparatory measures. The plate and the roller are polished, and damaged parts are removed. After that, the natural part is degreased with cleaners.
Next, the specialist proceeds to the procedure itself. There are several techniques, but now let’s consider prosthetics based on the simplest single-phase gel. The bottom line is alternately applying several layers of gel, which after solidification creates a durable and elastic coating to protect the nail bed. The form is modeled with a special spatula. Each applied layer of gel is thoroughly dried until it solidifies under the lamp.
Wearing a prosthesis is usually delayed for several months. All this time it is recommended to periodically check the condition of the natural nail and, if necessary, replace the prosthesis.
The procedure is authorized for use in most cases. But there are several contraindications:
- complete absence of the plate;
- the presence of open wounds.
